HaysMed Sports Medicine Physician Receives Kansas State University College of Health and Human Sciences Rising Professional Award

The Rising Professional Award is given to honor significant contributions made by a graduate in the early stages of his or her career. Recipients have demonstrated significant professional accomplishments in the areas of design, business, human behavior, teacher education or health sciences. During their return to campus, award winners meet with current students to share their stories and provide insight into today’s professional world.
Walstrom holds two degrees from Kansas City University. He received a master’s degree in bioscience in 2008 before he received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine in 2012. He went on to complete his residency at Via Christi Family Medicine in Wichita, Kansas, where he stayed to complete a sports medicine fellowship in 2016. He is certified with the American Board of Family Medicine and the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians. He also holds a Certificate of Added Qualification in Sports Medicine.
Walstrom also serves as the head team physician, healthcare administrator and the medical director for Fort Hays State University Athletics, roles he has held since 2016.
HaysMed To Open Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit
/in All, Community Health, HaysMed News, News/by Jade LemmonHays, KS – HaysMed will be opening an 11-bed inpatient rehabilitation unit this summer. The hospital has engaged Lifepoint Rehabilitation, a business unit of Lifepoint Health, to manage the inpatient rehabilitation unit. Under the agreement, HaysMed will own the unit and Lifepoint Rehabilitation will manage the operations.
The medical director for the unit has been secured and a separate announcement will take place closer to the opening.
“The rehabilitation services at HaysMed have a long history of offering exceptional care to patients recovering from injury and surgery.” said Terry Siek, chief nursing officer. “We identified a local need for inpatient rehabilitation services for our patients and establishing a unit dedicated to more complex rehab services is another way of providing the care needed as close to home as possible.”

This is a comprehensive program that consists of two, 5 hour sessions. Each session runs from 8:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and includes lunch. You are not required to attend consecutive classes in the same month.
